Welcome to Life Is a Gift

Warm, friendly, and welcoming. I want to draw the reader into a quiet sanctuary of hope.

Darlene C. Doerr

On Holy Saturday 1984, a small notice in a parish bulletin became the doorway to my life’s long offering. I said yes, not knowing that simple step would unfold into 38 years of service — years shaped by trust, steady hands, and the quiet companionship of God.

When my final day of work arrived, I felt an ache of unfinished purpose. In that stillness, the Lord whispered, “Write a book.” I doubted, and He answered softly, “Write a story.”

Two years of prayer later, the words finally came.
And now I’ve written the stories He planted in me —
The ones that became Life Is a Gift.

Life Is a Gift: Gabriel & Gabriella

Some stories of love are simple. This one is not. Their story began with a kiss on the forehead; tender, fleeting, and almost forgotten as life swept them apart. When Gabriel first met Gabriella, he never imagined how deeply their lives would intertwine. Life carried them down different paths, families grew, dreams shifted, and time slipped away. Through heartache and change, love and family had a way of pulling them back together. Gabriel and Gabriella found themselves standing on the edge of love that felt destined, though delayed. This is a story about love rediscovered—it’s not just a story of second chances. It is a story of families blending, of loss and renewal, and of two people discovering that sometimes life saves the best chapters for later. This series addresses both good and evil. God is good and the devil is evil. When the devil interferes with our lives, do we seek God, or do we blame Him?

Life Is a Gift: Helping Hands

As the series continues, Gabriel and Gabriella step into a new chapter of love, family, and purpose. With Gabriel’s generosity, Gabriella begins a ministry devoted to helping others: unhoused mothers, abused women, children in need, and families searching for hope. As their mission grows, their lives become deeply connected with the people they serve. From embracing children in need of a home to providing baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, even to stand with families struck by natural disaster—the mission becomes a light in the community. But not everyone welcomes their efforts. An untrustworthy mayor threatens the very heart of what they’ve built. Through it all, Gabriel and Gabriella discover that giving to others, their own family and faith are strengthened beyond measure—bringing both unexpected challenges and blessings as their family and their purpose continues to grow. This series addresses both good and evil. God is good and the devil is evil. When the devil interferes with our lives, do we seek God, or do we blame Him?

Life Is a Gift: A Child Needs Help

Life often weaves together the most unlikely people in the most unexpected ways. Intertwining the unforeseen, creating a story no one could have planned. A deceptive young man convinces a girl to follow him across the country; unaware she is caught in his plan to abduct a child. As the truth unfolds, she risks everything to protect the boy and find safety. Meanwhile, the boy’s grieving family endures their own trials unaware that God is already setting events in motion only He could orchestrate. Guided by the Holy Spirit, Gabriel and Gabriella are drawn into the boy’s story in ways they never could have imagined. Their trust in God opens doors to healing, hope, and even national attention as they share their faith on a public stage. This is a story of loss and redemption, of faith tested and strengthened, of lives forever changed when ordinary people step into a greater purpose. This series addresses both good and evil. God is good and the devil is evil. When the devil interferes with our lives, do we seek God or do we blame Him? This is the last book in the series Life Is a Gift
